ZoomiKon 2020This is how fast the internet moves in 2020.
CarniKat posted this tweet at 10:52 A.M.Eastern Time, April 28th, 2020, and by 5:17pm he started receiving numerous messages expressing interest to perform in his virtual concert during Covid-19 quarantine.
The set lineup featured five talented artists, that could easily become our next music sensation.. Lil Emo even went as far as creating a flyer for ZoomiKon 2020 and advertised the event on his social media accounts.

When I asked CarniKat about the success and interest in the event he said:
"Seriously. I was retweeting pictures of anime girls, while this boy set up a whole festival, and even made a custom header for the artists to put in their profile. Realizing that the tweet I made was becoming a real thing, I started messaging local and smaller artists that I really liked to try and diversify the set. By this point, we had Emo Rap, Alt Punk, Trance, & Acoustic Pop musicians. I was feeling especially brave, so I even emailed my favorite singer of all time, Kučka just to see if maybe I could convince her to perform at this little festival."

CarniKat"I was also able to convince my favorite producer and one of my favorite artists in general, Hexteria to perform last."
- CarniKat, Artist, Event Creator and Organizer. |
Lil Emo“It's amazing what talent was shown at ZoomiKon, and how a bunch of artists can come together to make people happy at a time where people are struggling; I wish to thank CarniKat for putting such a amazing event together”
- Lil Emo, Artist, Event Organizer. |
Everyone was in different time zones, so some people only saw certain artists, and not everyone was recorded, but people from nearly every continent tuned in to watch at different points throughout the day, which ended up lasting from 1PM to 9PM on May 1st (3 days after the original tweet).
Lil Emo had the audacity to say this after he did most of the event organizing, "I was using my laptop as the Zoom host (I have been blessed with fast internet), and the audience members were able to tune in via Twitch (although we gave certain people VIP access to the Zoom conference room, where they could dance for the artists and chat with them, as well as have enhanced audio and video quality)."
“I had a really good time listening to other artists that I hadn't heard of and getting to play my songs in return. It was creatively inspiring sharing work with a diverse group of artists. I look forward to when Zoomikon happens again” - Ryan Perry, artist, performer, Saggitarius.
Ryan Perry is a singer/songwriter from the DMV area, East Coast, USA who had never heard of the other artists, and they hadn’t heard of him, but after he performed, he got a bunch of offers to collaborate with other performers and artists that watched since he impressed so many with his vocal talent.
“I was really nervous about the whole thing because I had never used Zoom before and I got onto the set list really late. After watching Kučka, who was absolutely amazing, CarniKat did a basic sound check with me. Afterwards I performed 4 songs and even though I was unsure everyone was super supportive! Every artist that performed is someone I’d work with. ZoomiKon feels like the future of live shows and thank you CarniKat for helping pioneer that!” VHS, artist, rapper, performer.
What VHS didn’t realize is that we had many technical difficulties throughout the day, but by the time Kučka performed, we had worked them all out and things were running much more smoothly.
"Zoomikon wasn't a professional standard show by any means, its artist's weren't popular, but what it did have was soul. Zoomikon was a show with soul and energy, the artists performing having energy and a good vibe in the show, and they succeeded tremendously at that." - Sophie, were invested in the show. They didn't seem to care about quality, they cared about the energy, Alt-Punk Queen, artist, performer
Sophie unfortunately wasn’t able to watch the part where we got it together and I started feeling like a professional event organizer, although she herself, performed one of the most heartfelt sets towards the beginning of the event (She lives in the UK, and so the event started at night for her, and the afternoon for me.)
“Well Zoomikon was one of a kind. I wasn't there for most of it but I managed to see Lil Emo and CarniKat perform and that was enough for me to love the entire show. Watching you both perform live is honestly an amazing experience and would love to see you all perform again, under better circumstances if possible (yk with the corona shit going on).” - Smooothie, VIP guest, writer
Like many of the attendees and artists said, even after quarantine, there will be a shift towards live-streamed concerts as a way for artists all over the world to connect without a tour and venues and ticket sales in the future. It’s really exciting to be on the frontier of a new style of artist curating and showcasing.
